Christophe Von Hohenberg

Bio

Photographer and Author Christophe von Hohenberg was born in Oyster Bay , Long Island. He was

brought up in Southampton NY,  Neubeuern Germany , St. Croix Virgin Islands, and New York City.  Inspired by his Step Father , Photographer Wendy Hilty ,who presented Christophe with his first camera  at 14 years old ,a Rolleflex  Twin lens 2.8 which he has been photographing with ,ever since. Inspired by Henri Cartier- Bresson , William Klein, Jean Loup Sieff , David Bailey and by his own experiences living in Europe he created the series “Under Franco”,photographed in Madrid,Spain and exhibited at the New York Museum of Modern Art . Christophe  spent four years traveling  in his Volkswagen Beetle and attending university in 3 countries, Germany , Spain and France ,He  graduated from university in Paris in 1975 with a degree in “ European Studies” in Art , Philosophy and History .

He then moved on to Photography professionally . Freelancing with Guy Bourdain in Paris,  Frank Moscati,

Bob Stone, and Peter Castellano  in NYC. In 1979 American Vogue started shooting fashion with Christophe. In the 1980’s he expanded his career shooting for such publications as Andy Warhol’s Interview Mag.

Vanity Fair  with Elisabeth Bionde, German Vogue with Rados Protic and French Vogue  with, Jocelyn Kargere and many other European and American magazines . Christophe also photographed advertising campaigns for Givenchy , Estee Lauder , New York Times, and other companies .

In 2007 , his critically acclaimed book , “ Andy Warhol, The Day the Factory Died”  designed by Daniel Stark , was awarded the AIGA Book Award and the Photo District News Award.

Followed by two more books ,”  Another Planet ,New York 1976 - 1996 “  and recently he concluded a nine-year book project in Mexico City and the art scene. "Shadows of the Gods “,

In 2018 Christophe was on display in a group show at the Throckmorton Fine Art Gallery ,”Under the Cuban Sun” along side of photographers such as Christophe’s mentor, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Graciela Iturbide, and Walker Evans. This exhibition was later Exhibited in the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts in Tampa Florida.  Currently Exhibiting with  M M FINE ART and Leonard Tourne Gallery , Christophe's latest work, “The Flower Series : Shadows of the Soul “, “Images and Icons 1982 - 2018.” and

“Blinded by the Light” Channeling the Unseen World , in Southampton NY .
